In late 2009 we bought the house. Early in 2010 we moved in.
In late 2010 the re-structuring started and since then we lived in each of the lofts while the construction work was ongoing………
… But we loved being in the middle of a full-on reconstruction, which has covered the whole house. At one point the only elements left standing were the carrying walls. It has been a true blast.
While executing all our plans we realized we had many pets and other unknown organisms, like longhorns and wood rodents, enjoying a true ecosystem of fungus. Eventually, we decided to kindly request them to leave the building and renew every beam as well as all of the rest.
130 cubic meters of trash came out and 3 times that amount went in.
There were survivors, however.
Jack, Erik, Ron and Rob: the real professionals.
Jack enjoys his tubes,
Erik and Ron do miracles with wood,
Finally without Rob we wouldn’t have got a single light working.
Kée and Fló, together no more than 5 years, also proved to be committed building soldiers.
Our sugar uncle Huub almost fell through a floor/ceiling, but he came out of it without a scratch. Actually, one month later he slipped in the snow and broke his ankle. Strong as he is, he kept helping out with whatever possible.
Grandmas Miep and Myriam and auntie Carla also proved to be real crisis-nannies.
Frank was around every weekend to lend the team a hand, two very strong hands we must say!
Marc - our “Mr Handyman” - also tried hard to not break anything for a change.
Together with Raymond (the architect) we designed it and alltogether we created something we are very proud of.
We had hoped to finish in July 2011, but hey! it is now August.
You are very welcome to be amongst the first visitors of LOFT51.
Oh! by the way, all our guest have the permission to decorate the place ;)
Once you are here you will only need 200 steps (with a size 9) to get to the famous “Vrijthof” and a couple more to reach the impressive city hall on the market square.
